Welcome to Binfield Heath Polo Club

Binfield Heath Polo Club was founded in 1994 by a core of members who had previously played at Checkendon Park Polo Club, founded 2 years earlier by Toby Greenbury and Lord Francis Phillimore. The club is based at Lord Phillimore's grounds in Binfield Heath which is between Henley-on-Thames and Reading. Full affiliation was granted to the club by the HPa in 1996.

The original intention when forming the club was to foster low goal polo for members and visitors and to offer a friendly and painless introduction to polo for the beginner. Over the years close links with local high goal teams have meant that club members are now able to take advantage of playing with higher handicapped players in both chukkas and tournaments.

Since its formation the Club has developed and now boasts over 40 enthusiastic playing members. There is a good social atmosphere, with a number of social events arranged to complement the tournaments and throughout the year.

Tournaments are played on the beautiful HPA boarded ground, catering for all levels of players and range from -4 to 0 goal right through to the 0 to 6 goal Phillimore Trophy. Binfield Heath competes annually in the HPA arranged Alan Budgett inter-club -2 to 2 goal competition. Working closely with other clubs in the area catering to the same level of play means that our tournaments are extremely popular with all levels of players, from the complete novice through to the experienced professional. Players and professionals from local and distant clubs are always welcome and, should it be required, local accommodation and stabling can be arranged.

Chukkas are played on the full size practice ground, which is adjacent to the main ground on Thursday evenings and weekend mornings. Instructional chukkas are available 7.30pm thurs and 10.30 Sat and /or Sun. Clinics available throughout the season. Non-members are welcome to join in with all our chukkas. We are able to put newcomers in touch with local yards to arrange rental of ponies for lessons and chukkas if required. The range of expertise within the club is such that beginners should be able to take part in club chukkas early on without feeling awkward.
